Donovan Woods
The Widowmaker

Released:21st May 2012
Label: Aporia Records

‘The Widowmaker’ is the new album from Canadian singer/songwriter Donovan Woods, an artist who fits in very neatly next to Damien Rice, Ryan Adams, Bright Eyes and Iron and Wine.

As soon as you press play on this album you realise you are listening to something special. The album opens with ‘Jail’ a short piano led track that reaches out and grabs hold of the listener. ‘Phone’ contains wonderful acoustic sounds, warming vocals and a captivating melody.

Donovan is a songwriter who writes from the heart, on ‘Your Daughter John he sings “I still write songs, but I miss your daughter John” or on ‘I’m Still Sweet’, “Back at home things are getting weird, my sister fell in love with my old friend, we had a falling out so long ago, I don’t remember when”.

The album continues with one great track after the other. Acoustic melodies, harmonicas, banjos, and lyrics full of feeling combine to create an album that you will hold close to your heart.

The genius of the album is that Donovan never tries to over complicate things, yet each time you listen you will find something new to cherish.
