Following their self recorded demo which saw Bear Cavalry receive national airplay and festival appearances, the band have now released their debut EP entitled ‘Maple Trails’.
Opening track on the EP is the lead single ‘Roman Summer’. This is a confident, exciting single that shows Bear Cavalry are a band to keep a firm ear on during 2012. In a similar way to Friendly Fires in recent years, ‘Roman Summer’ is the sound of a band who have the potential to provide the soundtrack to next summers festivals. ‘Roman Summer’ is one of those songs that will appeal to people in indie clubs and dance clubs up and down the country. This is the sound of a band that have the potential to cross over to many genres of music.
As the EP progresses it becomes evident that Bear Cavalry are an exceptionally talented band. As they blend many different genres of music including indie, dance, afrobeat, funk, pop, and punk to create perfectly crafted songs. ‘Custom Hands’ is incredibly infectious and will be in your head for a long time to come. ‘Will Smith Solves The Rubiks Cube’ apart from being one of the most interesting song titles of the year is also a damn good song, with the strong indie vocals and then builds into a crescendo of beautiful noise with the horn section. ‘Dragons Milk pt ii’ has a delightful carnival feel to it, by the time this song as finished you will be pleading to hear more from Bear Cavalry.
