The last few years has seen a number of bands get back together, some for the love of music and others in need of cash. We have seen Blur, The Verve, The Libertines, The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, and Inspiral Carpets all trying to put aside differences and regain what they once had. The news of Dodgy getting back together would not have created the same headlines as The Stone Roses, but that does not mean this is not a reunion to not get excited by.

The original three piece of Nigel Clark, Any Miller and Matthew Priest have not released new music together since ‘Free Peace Sweet’ back in that glorious summer of 1996.

‘What Became Of You’ is the first single to be released from their forthcoming album and after listening to the song I am more than convinced that having Dodgy back together is a good thing for music. Once you got passed the breezy, joyful guitar pop that Dodgy have always created you discovered that there was a lot of depth and meaning to their songs, and that is exactly what we have with ‘What Became Of You’. This is a thoughtful, reflective song filled with those harmonies and melodies that have always made Dodgy a great guitar pop band.

If the new album ‘Stand Upright In A Cool Place’ continues in this form then it is going to be a very welcome return for Dodgy.

8/10
