Ivan Moult is a singer songwriter based in Cardiff. Ivan has built up a fan-base through gigging on a regular basis throughout the city and his time in Cardiff indie pop band The School. Ivan has had support from Tom Robinson, Adam Walton and Behtan Elfyn.
His music has been influenced by folk music which his parents brought him up on. Ivan released an EP ‘The Mine Canary’ on Cardiff based independent label Bubblewrap Records. This is an Ep that is incredibly captivating, beautiful and draws comparisons to the likes of Elliott Smith and Nick Drake. Together with this Ivan has also made a three track EP ‘What’s in a Word’ available as a free download.
If there is one word to use to describe the songs that Ivan creates, the word would quite simply be ‘perfect’. The opening track on the Canary Ep, is ‘Travels’ which is a beautiful song about waiting for someone to return home. ‘I might get cold’ takes the subject of a long distance relationship ‘to the untrained eye we might be miles apart / but you and I both know we’ve got a home in each others hearts’. Ivans’ lyrics are thought provoking. In the track ‘what’s in a word’ Ivan sings the line ‘you are my mirror for the things that i miss, the way that I appear to anyone but me’. The guitar and piano playing fit perfectly with the singing to allow the tender lyrics to take centre stage.
I can assure you that if you take time out of your busy day to devout a few minutes of your life listening to the songs of Ivan Moult you will not be disappointed.
