Arrange is the name which Malcom Lacey has chosen to self-release his debut album Plantation under. A beautiful, emotional piece of work. This is a sombre, intense album that is best listened to with headphones on in a dark room.

When listening to Plantation you can really hear Malcom’s heart being ripped out and stamped upon throughout the ten tracks. The album is full of atmospheric, ambient sounds and lush arrangements. Vocals are tender and overflowing with emotion. The album is so open and honest you almost feel as though you are invading Malcolm’s personal space by listening.

Stand out tracks on the album include ‘When You’d Find Me’. You can hear the anger in the lyrics “goddamn these thoughts and goddamn the people that remind me of you”. The pain that Malcolm is going through is very clear on ‘Tearing Up Old Asphalt’ with the lyric “Still can’t feel much of anything, When will it go? I don’t know”. ‘Burning Away’ continues the theme of loneliness and anger, “Light myself on fire, I don’t want to be desired”. One of the things that makes this album special is although it has a depressing theme, it is very listenable. It manages to draw the listener in and makes you want to really focus and listen to what is being sung.

If you have ever had your heartbroken or are currently in a place where you feel alone, then this is an album which you will be able to relate to and feel as though Malcolm is singing exactly what you are feeling.
