Darren Morrissey and Greg Marshall are both from Dublin, where they spent their time perfecting their craft as frontmen of Rock n Roll band ‘Deshonos’ which made the people of Ireland take notice of these two talented musicians. The duo decided to relocate to London in January 2011 with a collection of songs ready to spread their music further than their hometown and ensure their songs have the opportunity to be heard by as many people as possible.
Whilst in London they have been working hard trying to get these songs out in the public arena. Gigging regularly across the city, building a fanbase and gaining a residency in the Boogaloo in Highgate. Morrissey and Marshall have also played their songs to people on the London Underground, which must have been a real treat for anyone waiting at the stations on those days. The videos for these performances can be found on YouTube.
The angelic harmonies of Morrissey and Marshall have led to comparisons being made to Simon and Garfunkel and The Everly Brothers. Listening to ‘You Are Who You Are’ and ‘One Man Band’ the sounds of the aforementioned artists can clearly be heard. What I also hear is the sound of two songwriters who have been influenced by the Brit Pop years as sounds of Ocean Colour Scene and Richard Aschcroft can also be heard in these songs. ‘You Are Who You Are’ and ‘One Man Band’ are two songs that highlight the talent of these two songwriters. The melodies are clever and simple at the same time and the harmonies are sung perfectly, which all result in leaving you with a warm and happy feeling inside.
After listening to these songs I am sure it will not be long before Morrissey and Marshall receive the right record deal, and these beautiful and timeless songs start to work their way into the record collections of music fans across the world.
With a tour booked for April, including support slots with The Sand Band and Steve Craddock, 2012 is going to be the year that the UK starts to take notice.
